Author to hold book signing at Caribou Coffee

ATLANTA -- A Mableton author will hold a book signing at a local coffeeshop next weekend.

Wayne E. Beyea is the author of The Treasure of Valcour Island. He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Apr. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caribou Coffee on Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

According to Beyea's publisher, Tate Publishing:

It was difficult to hide a body 30 feet long, 2 to 4 feet thick, and weighing nearly 6,000 pounds, but he knew every inch of the half-mile long, pitch-black cavern ... he stretched his massive, dark body against the cool stone wall and tried to blend into the dissipating darkness near the far end of the cavern.

Four Metro Atlanta Caribou Coffee stores closing April 14

ATLANTA -- Coffee retailer Caribou Coffee said Monday they were closing four locations in metro Atlanta on April 14 as part of a larger set of store closings.

The company said it will close 80 locations nationally, and convert another 88 locations to Peet's Coffee locations, including the company's remaining nine stores in metro Atlanta.

The local stores that will be closing will be the locations on North Druid Hills Road, the Norcross store on Peachtree Parkway, and both Marietta locations -- on Powers Ferry Road and on Johnson Ferry Road.

The chain, America's second largest coffee chain behind Starbucks, was acquired in December 2012 by Joh. A. Benckiser, the German company which also recently acquired the West Coast coffee chain Peet's.

Final Four sets up ATL for more events, mayor says

ATLANTA -- Mayor Kasim Reed praised the city of Atlanta for hosting men's basketball championships for all three divisions of the NCAA.

The mayor said Tuesday that a preliminary review shows about 100,000 visitors visited Atlanta for the Final Four and title games for Divisions II and III. The basketball weekend ended Monday night with Louisville beating Michigan for the Division I title.

Reed says he expects an economic impact of about $70 million. That's the same estimate his office released before the Final Four. The mayor says there were minimal public safety issues, with about 60 arrests related to the events.

ATLANTA -- Buckhead’s ever-popular lunch spot, Souper Jenny, is beginning plans for its first expansion to the Decatur area.  Restaurateur, author, TV personality and owner Jenny Levison felt it was time to take the leap after fourteen successful years in business.
 
“I’ve always loved Decatur, and now the timing is finally right for a second location in one of my favorite parts of the city!” said Levison. “Now we just have to find the perfect home.”
 
Levison is currently scouting locations, with the luxury of time on her side. “There’s no real rush or deadline, so I can make sure I find the perfect fit,” she said.
