Thief Posing As Contractor in Buckhead

Via APD:

This man is posing as a contractor and entering residences without permission. The homes he enters are usually under renovation.

Once inside the homes, the male suspect steals wallets and jewelry, mostly small items which are easily concealed; then leaves the residence.

Our recommendation is for contractors to maintain a log on site for individuals to sign in and out for work details.  Residents are encouraged to secure personal items while work is in process at their homes.

Many Kids Need 2 Doses of Flu Vaccine

ATLANTA -- While most people will need only one flu shot or spray to guard against H1N1 and the seasonal flu, this year, many children will need two, according to the CDC.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends two doses of 2010-11 flu vaccine for children 6 months through 8 years of age unless they received at least one dose of 2009 H1N1 vaccine last flu season and at least one dose of seasonal vaccine prior to the 2009-2010 flu season or two doses of seasonal flu vaccine last flu season.

The first dose "primes" the immune system, while the second dose provides immune protection, according to the CDC. The second dose should be given 28 or more days after the first dose.

North Atlanta Pediatrics explains it this way on its website:

Fulton, DeKalb Offer Flu Vaccines

ATLANTA -- Flu season is on the way, and for the first time ever, the CDC is recommending that everyone over the age of six months get vaccinated.

Most people will need only one dose this year. But children may still need two, and older adults might consider getting a super potent vaccine.

On Monday morning, the Fulton County Health Department and the DeKalb County Health Department began offering the vaccine at several different health centers.

This year's flu season will be dramatically different from last year's season.

This time last year, the swine flu season was in full swing, and the vaccine for H1N1 was not available. It didn't come out until October, and even then it was really tough to find.

This year, there is one vaccine out now that's designed to guard against the regular flu and H1N1, and there is plenty of it to go around.

In fact, drug stores started offering the vaccine last month.

Mendenhall's TD in OT leads Steelers over Falcons

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Rashard Mendenhall broke off a 50-yard game-
winning touchdown run on the Steelers' first play of overtime as Pittsburgh
persevered for a 15-9 win over Atlanta in a defensive battle at Heinz Field.

After the Falcons faltered on the first possession of OT, Michael Koenen's
poor 36-yard punt from the 14-yard-line gave the Steelers prime field

Mendenhall wasted little time in making it count, bursting through a hole off
right tackle sealed off by a textbook block from tight end David Johnson on
his way to the end zone.

Mendenhall ended with 120 yards on 22 carries while Hines Ward came up huge
for Dennis Dixon with six catches for 108 yards.

Atlanta Church Prepares 325,000 Meals for Starving Children

ATLANTA, Ga. -- This weekend, beginning Friday night, volunteers with churches and organizations including Peachtree Presbyterian Church are making and packing and sending hundreds of thousands of meals to try to save the lives of starving children all over the world.

The groups are working with "Feed My Starving Children" (www.fmsc.org).

In the case of Peachtree Presbyterian, members raised more than $60,000 to buy, from Feed My Starving Children, the ingredients for 325,000 meals, at 19 cents a meal.

Feed My Starving Children shipped the dry ingredients -- chicken, vegetables, soy and rice -- to the church, and personnel with the organization are at the church supervising the volunteers in mixing the ingredients, sealing the mixture into plastic bags, all under FDA-regulated standards of cleanliness, and sending the 325,000 meals to where they're needed.
