ATLANTA — A City of Atlanta employee was killed in Buckhead Monday morning after he was hit by a falling tree.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on Springlake Dr. NW.

Woman dies after Buckhead apartment fire

CORRECTION: 11Alive has learned that officials are now saying the woman injured in the fire was 37-years-old, not elderly as previously reported.

ATLANTA — A 37-year-old woman pulled from a burning Buckhead apartment building Sunday has died.

Atlanta Fire and Rescue told 11Alive the two-alarm fire broke out shortly after 4 a.m. at the Pharr Manor apartments on Pharr Road.

According to Sgt. Cortez Stafford, the fire, which may have started in the kitchen of a first-floor unit, was aggressive and spread quickly to the other three units and attic of the two-story building.

"Our guys got here and were trying to rescue folks and also stop the fire from spreading to more apartments," he said. "We had some immediate decisions to make about going in and getting some folks that were possibly entrapped inside."

Suspected drunk driver slams into GSP Trooper's vehicle

ATLANTA — A Georgia State Patrol trooper is recovering from minor injuries after his vehicle was T-boned by a suspected drunk driver in Buckhead.

Home intruder gropes young girl in Buckhead apartment

ATLANTA (WXIA) – Atlanta Police said they were looking for a home intruder who sexually assaulted a young girl at a Buckhead apartment Monday evening.

Investigators from the Atlanta Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit were summoned to a unit at the 32 Hundred Apartments in Buckhead after receiving reports of the sexual assault on Monday.

The girl said that when she was lying in bed, she felt someone climb into the bed with her, and begin to grope her. When she jumped out of the bed, she saw what she described as a small Hispanic male dressed in a black hoodie and dark jeans.

She said she ran into her parents’ room, while the suspect fled to the living room of the apartment, and out the patio door.

According to a statement from police, the victim “was not harmed, injured, or taken carnal knowledge of.”

Sunday carjacking at Phipps leaves lingering safety questions

ATLANTA — A carjacking in the Phipps parking lot in broad daylight has 11Alive News Holding the Powerful Accountable on lingering safety questions. 

According to a police report obtained by 11Alive's Blayne Alexander, the victim of the carjacking told investigators he had just parked his 2015 Mercedes near Saks Fifth Avenue when a man got out of a dark SUV parked at the curb nearby. That suspect approached the victim, pointed a pistol at his chest, and told him to drop the keys. 

The victim dropped his keys and his wallet, but the suspect only took his keys.
