New Course for 2010 Atlanta Half Marathon

The Atlanta Track Club announced a new course for the 2010 Atlanta Half Marathon that will take place on Thursday, November 25, Thanksgiving Day.  The Atlanta Half Marathon, which previously started on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Chamblee and finished just outside of Turner Field on Hank Aaron Drive, will now boast a new course that starts and finishes outside of Turner Field and takes participants through areas of Atlanta including Downtown, Atlantic Station, Midtown and Cabbagetown.

The new 13.1 mile course provides a taste of Atlanta as participants pass by well-known Atlanta landmarks such as Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, Oakland Cemetery, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Georgia State Capitol and under the Olympic Rings.

“We are really excited about the changes that we’ve made to the Atlanta Half Marathon course,” commented Tracey Russell, Executive Director of the Atlanta Track Club.  “Not only will Atlanta Half Marathon participants get a flavor of all that Atlanta has to offer as they break in the new course, but with the start and finish of the race now in the same place, participants will have an easier time getting to and from the event.”

Along with the Atlanta Half Marathon, the holiday event features the inaugural Thanksgiving Day 5K run/walk that starts and finishes outside of Turner Field, as well as the Mashed Potato Mile and Drumstick Dash kids’ fun runs.

Online registration for the Atlanta Half Marathon and Thanksgiving Day 5K is available at atlantatrackclub.org through Sunday, November 21, 2010.
