The Lafayette 148 NY's Fall 2011 Line a Hit at Saks 5th Ave

On Saturday August 13th, the Layfayette 148 Trunk Show revealed its fall 2011 line to many buyers, socialites, and press at the distinguished location of Saks 5th Avenue at Phipps Plaza. Upon arrival, guests in attendance were treated to delightful hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.  The raspberry-lemonade cocktail, long-stem flutes of champagne and fine cheese served on mini triangle-shaped breads were only but a few of the items served. Guests were also able to receive an 18 page booklet, detailing the elegant, yet wearable, designs for the fall.  Located in the back of the booklet, were actual pictures from the designer, Edward Wilkerson’s, trip to India—a trip that incited inspiration for all of his fall 2011 designs.

The show opened with light Indian/Bali style music and the audience was greeted by a splash of deep reds, gold, purples, and browns.  The inspirations of Wilkerson’s latest excursion to India, are apparent in each piece of the clothing.

So what can we expect to see from this season’s line?

STYLE:

  1. Leather Gloves- $148
  2. Cow-neck chunky sweaters-Cable Knit Sweater $298
  3. Furs- Silver Tipped Fox Muffler $498
  4. Coin and Sequin Leather Belt-$298

COLORS:

  1. Red
  2. Gold
  3. Purple
  4. Brown
  5. Animal Print: Zebra and Leopard

FABRICS:

  1. Leather
  2. Knit
  3. Fur
  4. Lambskin

TIPS ON HOW TO WEAR IT:

  1. Sashes +Draping- A lot of Wilkerson’s inspirations are apparent in the styling of his clothing. Indian fashion does incorporate a lot of this. So it was refreshing to see…
  2. Layer it Up- In the fall and winter seasons, it can be a little windier. Therefore, it is important to layer (and layer some more) for a more trendy yet warm look.

MY FAVS ON THE RUNWAY:

  1. Double Faced Coat-$898

Why I Adore: Coats I can never get enough of when it gets chilly--and yes, it definitely gets cold here in Atlanta! I love this coat because I can wear it now, and keep if for years to come as a staple wardrobe piece.

  1. Flannellato Draped Collar coat- $598

Why I Adore: Again, you never can get enought of having a really great and extremely wearable coat. This style is amazing with the draping!

  1. Lightweight Flannellato Cap Sleeve Dress- $448

Why I Adore: Comfortable yet elegant.

  1. Paisley Oblong Scarf w/Tassels-$198

Why I Adore: This scarf I immediately fell in love with. I love scarfs and purple is my fav color which is the boldest color. Also, the braided tassels at the end of the scarf kick it up a notch out of the boring scarfs group! Love it...

We were able to catch up with the designer after the show. Here are some behind the scenes action:

INTERVIEW WITH THE DESIGNER:

Tiffani Rose: Have you always offered petite and plus sizes for women?

Edward: Yes, always. It has been important to me to offer choices to all shapes and sizes.

Tiffani Rose: How long were you in India? I do understand that excursion was the inspiration for most of your line this fall.

Edward: (Laughs) We were in India for about 2 ½ weeks. It was an extraordinary journey.

Tiffani Rose: What inspired you most about the fashions in India?

Edward: Oh wow, everything--the textures, colors of course, and the different types of patterns and designs. I absolutely am inspired by patterns.

Tiffani Rose: I run a life-style blog called Politics and Pumps: THE BLOG, so can you tell our readers what shoes you absolutely cannot live without?

Edward: (Laughs) My Gucci loafers. Can’t live without them for a minute.
