The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Georgia Chapter Announces their 2011 Man & Woman of the Year

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced it’s Man & Woman of the Year Saturday night at their campaign’s Grand Finale at the Loews Atlanta Hotel. Twelve professional leaders---six women and six men-- have been good naturedly competing with each other for the last ten weeks to raise the most money for the Society. In its third year, the event raised a record $440,811, more than doubled last year’s event.

Ruth Bartlett single handedly raised $101,328 and was named the 2011 Woman of the Year. Ruth is a partner at Frazier & Deeter. Harry Jones, who raised $66,259, was named the 2011 Man of the Year. Harry is a partner at Edge Capital Partners, LLC.

Nine candidates were inducted into the "10K for the Cure" club. All candidates who raise $10,000 or more during this year’s Man & Woman of the Year campaign receive this honor. In addition to the winners, the following candidates each raised more than $10,000 during the ten week campaign which began in early March: Cromwell S. Baun, Bob Huber, Jim Franklyn, Matthew B. Winn, Tricia M. Fussell, Mitzi Jiles and Wendy Wilkerson. Every year, these candidates will be recognized at the annual Man & Woman of the Year Grande Finale for the tremendous contribution they made to the 2011 campaign.

"We were pleased to recruit such an outstanding class of candidates for this campaign. While only two people are crowned the Man & Woman of the Year and we inducted nine into the 10K for the Cure Club, we are so proud of all of our candidates because of their extraordinary job they did in making this campaign such a tremendous success. We counted on their creativity and ingenuity to raise the funds, and they performed brilliantly," said Dick Brown, executive director of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Georgia Chapter.

This year Jim Franklyn won the Mission Award; the award to the candidate that demonstrated exceptional mission integration into their campaign. Wendy Wilkerson was awarded the Community Award; the award to the candidate that facilitated exposure in the community and built a strong program and team.

Every dollar the candidates raised counted as one "vote" and the candidates with the most votes were given the title Man & Woman of the Year. Woman of the Year Ruth Bartlett and Man of the Year Harry Jones will now be entered into the national competition for Man & Woman of the Year, which will be named in July. All of the candidates competed in honor of the Society’s Boy & Girl of the Year, Christina and Jordan, local children who are blood cancer survivors and sources of inspiration to others.

The 2011 Man of the Year nominees were Cromwell S. Baun, UBS Financial Services Inc.; Eric Eason, MD, State Of Georgia, Bureau of Investigation; Bob Huber, John Deere Landscapes; Jim Franklyn, InkHead Promotional Products; Harry Jones, Edge Capital Partners, LLC and Matthew B. Winn, Cushman & Wakefield.

The 2011 Woman of the Year nominees were Ruth Bartlett, Frazier & Deeter, LLC; Dr. Carla Berg, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health; Tricia M. Fussell, DDS, MS of Whitney & Fussell Orthodontics; Mitzi Jiles, firstPRO, Inc; Kra Riddell, Lethal Rhythms and Wendy Wilkerson, MC 2.

"Man & Woman of the Year is a great opportunity for participants to network with other candidates while raising money for a great cause," said Tracy Manning, campaign manager of The Man & Woman of the Year event, "We applaud the tireless efforts of our incredible candidates and thank each of them for making such a significant and record setting difference in the lives of so many people."
