Estate Taxes and the New Tax Bill: More and Less Certainty

Estate Taxes and the New Tax Bill: More and Less Certainty

ESTATE TAXES & THE NEW TAX BILL - MORE AND LESS CERTAINTY

The estate planning measures passed in the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 beg the question "what do we do now?"  This new bill reinstates the estate tax with an exemption amount of $5 million dollars for an individual and a maximum estate tax rate of 35% on values above the exemption amount.  Married couples will have the ability to pass $10 million dollars of assets before any estate tax will be due.  In addition, all assets included in an estate will have their basis automatically "stepped-up" to fair market value.  This means that assets will likely have no capital gains tax if they are sold soon after death since their value is stepped-up.  The generation skipping tax exemption was also increased to $5 million dollars.

Does this mean that single persons with less than $5 million dollars and married couples with less than $10 million dollars no longer need to w

Social Media Agency, Mastermind, Creates Innovative Promotions on Facebook

Mastermind, a top social media agency, is taking advantage of recent changes in Facebook’s promotions guidelines to create innovative opportunities for brands it represents and says marketers must adhere to some important rules to conduct effective promotions on the site.  The agency is currently creating new promotions for several clients under the revised guidelines.

“The key new provision is that companies no longer need permission from Facebook before administering a promotion on the Facebook platform,” says Mike Gelfond, executive vice president, Mastermind.  “While these new promotion guidelines make it easier for companies to create Facebook promotions, it’s vital that what they implement has value for the brand’s target audiences.”

Gelfond notes that “social media platforms, Facebook in particular, offer an unmatched way for brands to connect with their customers.”

Stalled Buckhead Project Taken Over by California Developer

ATLANTA -- It's a gaping, windswept gulch, a big-time yet stillborn construction project in the heart of Buckhead.

"It's definitely at a standstill today," said Buckhead Coalition president and former Atlanta mayor Sam Massell.

In 2006, the project known as the Streets of Buckhead started with the promise of six blocks of luxury retail shops.  When the economy tanked, construction stopped.  Developer Ben Carter announced new financing for the Streets of Buckhead this summer, and an October restart. But the giant cranes over the project have stayed idle.

The construction site occupies the area of Buckhead that was once the center of the neighborhood's bar district.

"So we're a couple of months behind, which in the scheme of things, is not that big -- except that it's been delayed over a number of months before that," Massell said.
