WEEKEND EVENTS: Hawks Basketball and Urban Gardening

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Wind down at Fernbank’s Martinis and IMAX event on Friday, April 22. This weekly event usually draws a healthy sized crowd. Most cocktails are about $8 each and tickets to each actual IMAX movie are about $12. Come join Atlanta’s cosmopolitan crowd at this event.

Swim with the Georgia Aquarium’s resident whale shark on Friday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. Guests will be able to swim at the surface, with an air supply. The aquarium will provide a mask, air, booties and a wetsuit. All of this comes with a $224.95 price tag, talk about a nice Earth Day gift.

Arguably the best center in the NBA, the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard journeys home to Atlanta for game three of the NBA Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

DASANI Celebrated its New PlantBottle® Packaging by Giving Back to Local Eco-Samaritans

The first 100 percent recyclable beverage packages made with plants were made readily available on April 4, 2011 to people across the U.S. To recognize the little things people do to live more sustainably, a DASANI Blue Crew attended two big events in Atlanta on April 16 and April 17 and thanked residents for partaking in eco-friendly activities. The local effort helped to celebrate the national launch of DASANI PlantBottle® packaging – a 100 percent recyclable bottle made of up to 30 percent plants.

More than 1,000 Atlanta residents were “caught,” by the DASANI Blue Crew, being environmental do-gooders.

Atlanta Falcons LB Curtis Lofton hosts "Fashion Funds the Cure"

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Curtis Lofton of the Atlanta Falcons will be hosting the “Fashion Funds the Cure” Charity Event at Bloomingdales Lenox Square, tonight at 6PM.

This event will feature a fashion show, live and silent auction and cocktail hour and all proceeds go to the Rally Foundation. The Rally Foundation is a, “501(c)(3) non-profit organization that empowers volunteers across the country to raise awareness and fund for childhood cancer research to find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and ultimately, to find cures.”

Tonight’s fashion show will feature pint-sized patients, modeling in the latest fashions, being escorted down the runway by top players in the NFL. The runway will also feature professional models from Factor Model Management.

The events live auction includes items, like a Robert Mondavi Winery Tour in Sonoma, tickets and airfare to the ESPY Awards and a male Goldendoodle puppy.

Junior League of Atlanta raises awareness through deoderant donation

ATLANTA – Members of the Junior League of Atlanta will be donating 4,000 tubes of Secret brand deodorant to the Atlanta Women’s Day Shelter on Ethel Street.

Leaders of the organization have worked with the shelter to meet the need of these women, during these times.

The Junior League will deliver this donation at 10:45AM. The shelter is located at 655 Ethel Street in Atlanta.  

Second Ponce Fun Fair to be held, this weekend

BUCKHEAD, Ga. – On Saturday, Second Ponce de Leon Baptist is hosting its Springtime Festival. The Fun Fair features numerous bounce houses, a petting zoo, pony and train rides, a race track with all forms of electric cars and old fashion fun like a bean bag toss, duck pond and the ever popular cake walk.

Five Star BBQ will be on-site cooking. Tickets for festivities at $.50 a piece and games run between 1 and 6 tickets, each.

Second Ponce is located at 2175 Peachtree Road. And the festival will be held from 10AM until 2PM.
