ATLANTA – (Brown Mackie College) Brown Mackie College – Atlanta will host Education Day, ‘Grow Your Mind. Evolve Your Life. Become Your Vision.’ on Saturday, March 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Prospective students will learn about targeted education for future careers and convenient “one course a month” day and evening schedules. They can also meet faculty, staff, employers, students, and have the opportunity to tour classrooms and labs.

Sanders Financial Management Teaches Students How To Invest With $1,000 Challenge

First the first time, Sanders Financial Management (SFM) will conduct its annual Stock Market Challenge at the Atlanta International School.  The ten-week event, now in its sixth year, teaches young people how the global financial system works, and prepares them for business careers in a competitive workforce.  It began on February 14 and ends on April 15.  SFM is a financial advisory and investment management firm based in Norcross.

“We are excited to invite seniors from the Atlanta International School to participate in our simulated stock market competition,” said Owen Malcolm, chief operating officer of Sanders Financial Management.  “We’ll provide an overview of how the financial system works and general investment tips.  Then, after ten weeks, the student with the largest portfolio and greatest return is declared the winner and receives a $1,000 college scholarship.”

San Diego-based OliverMcMillan Inc. confirmed Tuesday it inked a deal to buy the project in Atlanta and plans to begin construction this year.

PATH Foundation Unveils First “triPATHlon” Event for Chastain Park

ATLANTA -- (submitted by TRIO Media) PATH Foundation today announced the debut of the Chastain Park “triPATHlon” event which will be held Sunday, May 8, 2011.

The first-ever triPATHlon – a benefit event for coordinating sponsors the PATH Foundation, Chastain Park Conservancy and Chastain Park Athletic Club – starts at 7:30 a.m. and includes a 400-yard swim in the Chastain Park pool, a 15-mile bike ride through one of Atlanta’s most beautiful neighborhoods around Chastain Park and concludes with a 5K run on the Chastain Park trail.

 “This is a signature event to celebrate PATH’s 20th anniversary,” said Ed McBrayer, executive director of PATH Foundation.

Georgia-Pacific to donate supplies to APS classrooms

ATLANTA – (Atlanta Public Schools) All APS elementary school classrooms will receive boxes of school supplies from Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific, as part of a month-long national corporate employee campaign that started last month on the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and will conclude at the end of February.

The company will deliver the supplies, including notebook paper, pencils, pens, construction paper, crayons and hand sanitizer to M. Agnes Jones Elementary School at Noon Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011.  Along with these “care boxes”, each elementary school will also receive two cases of office paper, paper towels and facial tissue products.

Georgia-Pacific employees will arrive at the school on a chartered school bus, as they do on a weekly basis to engage in mentoring activities with students through the Atlanta Partners for Education program.

Legoland set for Phipps Plaza Mall

ATLANTA -- (Atlanta Business Chronicle) Move over Tiffany & Co., here comes Legoland.

Legoland Discovery Center, an indoor attraction and retail store of the iconic plastic brick, is coming to Phipps Plaza, known for its upscale retailers like Gucci, Giorgio Armani and Versace.

The 32,000-square-foot attraction is expected to be built in the food court of the Buckhead mall, according to a building permit from the city of Atlanta.

Phase one of the $450,000 project will require demolition of some food court tenants, the permit indicates.

WXIA-TV Names Joe Seidel Class Act Teacher

WXIA-TV Names Joe Seidel Class Act Teacher

Joe Seidel, First Montessori School of Atlanta's music teacher and director of parent relations, has been named a WXIA-TV Class Act Teacher. The station selects roughly 35 teachers each year from more than 300 nominations. Honorees are chosen based on various criteria, including love of teaching, knowledge of the subject, empathy, positive attitude and ability to meet the needs of individual students.

Seidel has more than 30 years of classroom experience. Prior to his current position, he served as head of school at First Montessori School of Atlanta. Located at 5750 Long Island Drive, FMSA is the Southeast's oldest Montessori School and serves the needs of students ages 18 months to 14 years.

Seidel earned a bachelor's degree in music performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and a master's degree in music performance from Yale University.

"My goal in teaching is to instill a lifelong love of music in children," Seidel said.
