In an effort to contribute to the improvement of academic performance among African American students in public schools, the “Atlanta’s Own” Jimmy Jones C.H.O.I.C.E. Foundation (Creating Helpful Opportunities In Critical Environments) are hosting their launch event “The Red Tie Soiree” on Sunday, December 19th at AJA Restaurant in Buckhead from 7p.m. until 11p.m.

The Foundation which was founded in October 2011 aims to serve as a vehicle to motivate African American youth to become more competitive in middle school and high school academics, in order to ease their matriculation through college.

Turner Construction Delivers for Tucker Food Pantry

Turner Construction Company works to complete the new Tucker High School, their employees are making a difference in the community in other ways.  Thanksgiving week, Turner employees filled the beds of two pickup trucks for the Tucker Food Pantry.

More than 1,600 Take Part in "Girls on the Run" 5k

Alpharetta resident Ellie Burton (back right in photo) coached a group of young girls (grades 3-8) from Johns Creek through a 5k run earlier this month. More than 1,600 runners took part in the 5k race November 14, raising money for Girls on the Run (www.girlsontherunatlanta.org), a local non-profit that teaches elementary aged girls about self respect and healthy living. This was the organization’s largest 5k ever.

Burton is a Financial Associate at Sanders Financial Management (www.sandersfinancial.com), a Norcross-based investment advisory firm is a corporate sponsor of the Girls on the Run 5k run.

Touchdown for Tots Toy Drive with the Atlanta Falcons

On Tuesday, November 30th, from 5-6 p.m.  Atlanta Falcons players Thomas DeCoud, William Moore, Dominique Franks will join the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to launch Touchdown for Tots, a national toy drive benefiting the Toys for Tots Foundation. 

Atlanta Falcons players are giving back to their community by hosting a shopping spree for children from the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. Toys for Tots will purchase enough toys for 170 kids at the Boys & Girls Club, and the Marines will load a truck full of toys for the rest of the kids back at the Club who are not participating in the shopping spree.

Fans are encouraged to stop by Toys“R”Us Buckhead Loop to drop a toy in the Toys for Tots collection bins.

Toys“R”Us Buckhead is located at 1 Buckhead Loop Drive, Northeast.

BCHNBA 6th Annual Holiday Charity Fundraiser, Drop Off Locations Announced

For the past six years, the Brookhaven Chamblee Home Owners and Neighborhood Business Alliance have helped underserved families, in the process of moving from shelters back in their own homes, by donating new coats, new jackets, new shoes, and toys to aid in their transition and this year they will continue that tradition.

This year the two recipients will be Atlanta Mission Sister’s Place and Decatur Cooperative Ministry homeless shelter.

The organization have selected a number of businesses locations where the community can drop off any of these items if they want to support these families. There will donation boxes at the following locations beginning Monday, November 22, 2010 – December 16, 2010 where the community can drop off donated items from 9:00a.m.

Shula’s 347 Toys for Tots Campaign, November 27th

Join Santa Claus and the good people at Shula’s 347 to celebrate the launch of the Shula’s Toys for Tots Campaign.

Families are invited to the kick-off event on Saturday, November 27th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event will feature a special appearance by U.S. Marine Corps and “Lunch with Santa”.

In an effort to collect as many toys as possible, Shula’s is promising a FREE kid’s meal for all families that donate an unused toy to their Toys for Tots campaign. The FREE meal offer will be available, every, Saturday until December 18th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Shula’s 347 Grill is located at 3405 Lenox Road, Northeast inside the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel.
