Turtles Stolen from Buckhead Park, not exactly

The Buckhead community can, now, breathe a sigh of relief.

According to a release disseminated by the Buckhead Coalition:

Since filing a police report on the bronze turtles removed from Charlie Loudermilk Park, the Buckhead Coalition has been advised that the Buckhead Alliance had disposed of them, which was unknown by the Alliance’s staff contacted to investigate the incident.  Alliance Chairman Robin Loudermilk (678-402-3306) explained the turtles were not to be used in the park’s redesign and they were given to three persons contributing to the rebuilding campaign.  Coalition president Sam Massell says:  “All’s well that ends well, and apparently they are in good hands, and the park will benefit from the financial support.”

As for the Buck Man, he'll never be reunited with the turtles that flanked him for years and that fact, we're sure, will take some getting used to.

Help the Buck Man Reunite with his Turtles for a Generous Reward

Buckhead residents are up in arms about three missing bronze turtles which are a part of a multi-piece sculpture in the triangular Charlie Loudermilk Park at Peachtree and Roswell Roads in Buckhead.

The good people of the Buckhead Coalition are offering a reward - - actually, several rewards - - for information related to the return of their dear turtles.

Purchased by the Coalition for approximately $200,000 in 1998, the sculpture features an upright stylized bronze buck reportedly telling the story of how the Community of Buckhead got its name to a group of smaller animals including one rabbit, three dogs and six turtles.

The turtles have been missing since the first of October and a reward of $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for their disappearance has since been offered.  An additional $500 is being offered for the return of each of the undamaged turtles, which weigh approximately 75 pounds ea

63rd Annual Arrival of the Great Tree, November 14th

Celebrate with Macy’s Lenox Square as they “ring in the holiday season” with the 63rd Annual Arrival of the Great Tree. The 31 year old tree, which is estimated to be 62 feet tall and weigh approximately 12,000 pounds, has grown too large for the home of Mr. & Mrs. Larry and Kathryn Rymer, but is perfect for this year’s tree lighting celebration.

The tree will arrive at Lenox Square Mall at 8:00 a.m. and it departs from the Superior Rigging & Erecting Company on Woodstock Road in Atlanta at 7:30 a.m.  A large crane will be used to lift the tree to its platform atop Macy’s at 10:00 a.m.

This year’s celebration promises to be a memorable one, with Katherine McPhee; Chuck Wicks; Bobby V. and local artist Austin Renfroe taking the stage at Lenox Square Mall for the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting on Thanksgiving Night, Thursday, November 25.  The Macy’s Great Tree Lighting Show will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

Get into the Holiday Spirit at Lenox Square Mall

Along with a jolly Santa Claus, parked across from Macy’s and Priscilla making her rounds, Lenox Square Mall is, slowly but surely, morphing into a Holiday Wonderland.
