Town Hall Meeting on Immigration at the Loudermilk

Come and listen to a panel of experts and economists discuss the potential impact of the controversial Arizona-type law being considered for Georgia at a town hall meeting entitled, “The Economics of an Arizona law: What would that mean to Georgia?” This meeting will be held at The Loudermilk Center (40 Courtland Street) on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The event is being hosted by the Asian American Legal Advocacy Center, Inc. (AALAC) of Georgia, Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) and Latin American Association.

CURE Luncheon

This Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. CURE Childhood Cancer’s 6th Annual “A Tribute to Quiet Heroes” luncheon will honor mothers of children with cancer whose love and tireless dedication guide their families through their journey with cancer.

The event will also include a silent auction with items such as an autographed Justin Bieber guitar, an opportunity for one lucky Little League team to receive coaching from Tom Glavine at his home, dinner with Chris and Tom Glavine, a Macbook Pro and 2011 Masters’ Tournament final round badges available for bidding.  Tickets are $125 and can be purchased online at www.quietheroes.org.

The event will take place at the Grand Hyatt: Buckhead (3300 Peachtree Road NE).

Melissa Carter to Host Town Hall Meeting about HIV/STDS

On Friday, September 24th, the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) will announce the launching of Taking Control, which is a statewide HIV/STD awareness and prevention initiative developed by and for gay and bisexual men in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Community Heath will hold a Town Hall Meeting at 6:30p.m. at the Loudermilk Center Ballroom (40 Courtland Street NE). This event, “The Urgency of Fighting HIV among Gay and Bisexual Men in Georgia” will be emceed by Melissa Carter from Q100’s “The Bert Show”. She has since served as Grand Marshal in Atlanta's Gay Pride Parade, been honored as "Best Radio DJ" and "Best Female Hero" by different local newspapers, and performed in Atlanta productions of "The Vagina Monologues."

Celebrating the Arts in Buckhead

Please join Charlie Loudermilk & the Buckhead Alliance for The Charlie Loudermilk Park renovation kick off cocktail event, "Celebrating the Arts in Buckhead". This event will be  held in the center of the Buckhead Village at the newly renovated Buckhead Theatre. 

The evening will be emceed by the Today Show's Dan Gardner. This event is produced by Randy Kamay of Entertainment Design Group. All music is choreographed by Angela Harris and the talent lineup will feature live performances by Dance Canvas, Cici Kelley & The MTV Swagger Crew, the Francisco Vidal Band and a special appearance by the WNBA Atlanta Dream's Dream Supremes.

All pieces of art on display will be by Buckhead's own Atlanta International School & the talented SCAD Atlanta. The park renderings will be provided by William Harrison Design and Roxy Capital Partners.

2010 Gospel Sing Out at New Hope AME

The 2010 Gospel Sing Out, sponsored by the New Hope A.M.E. Church Women’s Day Committee, will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

This year’s theme is “Unity.” The Praise Team from Breakthrough Outreach Ministry Church of Decatur, GA will kick off the event.

Henry Hutchins will be the master of ceremonies. Guest soloists will include Minister Dagmar Grimes, Brenda Crosby, Latoria Durden, Kenyon Rashand Dudley, and Evangelist Cecelia Head. There will be selections will by the New Hope A.M.E. Church Choir and the Spiritual Airs Quartet from Smyrna, GA.

Donations from the concert will be used to support church ministries and for the continued uplifting of God’s people through music.

LGBT Advisory Board to Meet Sept. 20th

The Atlanta Police Department’s newly re-formed Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Advisory Board will meet Monday, September 20th at 10 a.m. at Saint Mark United Methodist Church (781 Peachtree Street, NE). This meeting is open to the public.

                       

1st Annual Atlanta Field Day

On Saturday, September 18th, Westminster Presbyterian Church (1438 Sheridan Road Northeast, Atlanta,) will host CHRIS Kids, 1st Annual Atlanta Field Day.

The field, along with registration, starts at 8 a.m. Atlanta Field Day, will be a morning of friendly adult competition. Similar to field day in Elementary School, there are 15 races including The Sack Race, The Three Legged Race, The Relay Race, and activities like Tug-O-war and others.

Teams and individuals compete to win points and receive prizes. All proceeds go to local nonprofit organization CHRIS Kids and entry fees are tax deductible.
