Church thief takes selfies with stolen iPad

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have a very important clue that may help them track down a thief -- clear selfies of the suspect.

The man is accused of stealing electronic equipment and an iPad from the media room at Church of the Apostles in the 3500 block of Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

The theft happened Jan. 12. The church eventually replaced the iPad and found five photos of the suspect on its iCloud account. Police said the photos were taken shortly after the equipment was stolen.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said investigators believe the selfies were taken at the BP station at 151 Cleveland Avenue in southeast Atlanta. Police are also looking for a possible getaway car used in the crime -- a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Illinois tag C42 6584.

Jones said there was a second robbery attempt at Church of the Apostles on Jan. 25. Nothing was stolen in that incident.

Anyone with information in the thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
