BUCKHEAD: Suspected burglar caught in barbed wire

ATLANTA -- A suspected burglar, running away from police, was stopped in his tracks when he got tangled up in barbed wire.

According to Atlanta police, it all began with a burglary call from the 900 block of Peachtree Battle Circle.

Police issued a lookout for the suspects and their vehicle, which was spotted by patrol officers in Buckhead. They pursued the suspects into Northwest Atlanta, where the crashed their car on Chattahoochee Avenue near Marietta Boulevard.

Police said the suspects then took off on foot, but one of them got caught in barbed wire and required medical attention.

Both suspects were eventually taken into custody.

Feds crack down on prescription drug trafficking

ATLANTA -- A federal grand jury in Atlanta has charged a total of 13 defendants from two states with illegally trafficking in oxycodone and other prescription drugs.

The two cases arise out of intensified efforts to address Georgia's growing problem with prescription drug abuse.

"Prescription drug abuse is our nation's fastest-growing segment of illegal drug use, causing significantly more overdose deaths than cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin combined," said United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.

In the first incident, 11 Georgia residents were charged with conspiring to forge oxycodone prescriptions and sell the illegally obtained tablets.

Atlanta fugitive arrested in New Orleans

ATLANTA -- A man wanted for a murder in Buckhead has been arrested in Louisiana.

Chris Anthony Little, a.k.a. Antonio Maldonado, was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 10 in New Orleans.

He is wanted for the Nov. 11, 2010 murder of 30-year-old Stephen B. Pierce on Piedmont Road in Buckhead. Authorities say that Little, 28, and two accomplices shot Pierce multiple times while trying to rob him of suspected marijuana.

One of the accomplices, Stephen Bradley Tatis, is currently in police custody. The third suspect in this case remains unidentified.

Little is being held in New Orleans as he awaits extradition back to Atlanta.

Atlanta non-profits, civic and community groups, neighborhood associations, citizens and businesses are invited to attend the various community meetings planned in locations throughout the city. 

All meetings are from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

Dispute over VIP room sparks shooting

ATLANTA -- One man was shot several times early Friday at the Room Service Lounge on Piedmont Circle.

Police say two groups of men began arguing over who was going to use the VIP room. The argument became physical and ended when someone pulled a gun and began firing.

An unidentified man was shot in the stomach and in both legs. He was taken to Grady Hospital and was reported in stable condition.

Police are still interviewing witnesses. No arrest have been made.

CPCA mobilizes to catch accused sex criminal

ATLANTA – An arrest has been made in connection with the February 22nd incident at Chastain Park. According to reports, a 66 year-old male is accused of having an inappropriate conversation with a 2 year-old girl by a swing set. The girl’s mother called the police and with the help of neighbors, the perpetrator was located.

According to the Chastain Park Civic Association (CPCA), “During questioning, the accused turned over a concealed handgun for which he had a legal permit.”  

The Stone Mountain man was charged under the Child Molestation statute. However, there was no physical contact with the child. A second charge was brought for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. CPCA also believes that he parked his van in the NYO parking lot on Lake Forrest Drive by the Field of Dreams.

The investigation is still open and the preliminary hearing for this incident is set for March 9th at 9:30 a.m.
