The GPCA Challenges Other Associations to Join the Fight to Cure Blood Cancer

Valera Jessee, Executive Director of the Georgia Pest Control Association (GPCA) challenges other non-profit associations to come together in support of the Light The Night Walk. "The Light The Night Walk brings together members in a friendly competition and supports the communities from which we draw our livelihood", said Jessee.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) relies heavily on funds raised through the GPCA. Since 2004, member companies of the GPCA have raised over $708,000. The goal this year is to raise another $100,000. What is unique about this partnership is that companies competing to eliminate your pest problem are joining forces for the common good. Advanced Services, Allgood Pest Solutions, Future Services, HomeTec Exterminating and Terminix are all participating this year through the Technician Donation Program which promotes technicians asking customers for donations upon completion of service. Many more companies participate by playing in the annual GPCA Golf Tournament. This year, the tournament held on August 16 was a huge success with the total still being tallied. Every other year the GPCA Leadership Class brings together members from several companies who are divided into teams and compete for who can raise the most funds. In 2009, the Class raised over $30,000! "Our participation is very important to finding a cure", said Jessee. "We are all committed, devoted and plan to continue this fight until we are no longer needed".

LLS hopes other associations will copy the GPCA model and join the fight to cure blood cancer. "Associations are great for partnering with because they work with so many companies who are able to involve employees, vendors, customers and families all with a common goal. After months of fundraising, the team comes together with softly lit balloons and lights the night with hope. It really is something you can feel good about" said Dick Brown, Executive Director of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
