First Black President Elected to BBA Takes Office

On Thursday, December 16, Elizabeth Gill, 2009 past president, will present the 2011 Board of Directors slate to the membership at the Buckhead Business Association’s weekly breakfast and networking meeting .The event is held at the City Club of Buckhead and starts at 7:30 AM.

As the current president-elect, Lolita B. Jackson will subsequently become the first African-American president of the Buckhead Business Association.  2011 also denotes the 60th anniversary of the BBA.

As the external-affairs manager of the metro-east region for Georgia Power, Jackson immerses herself in the community on a daily basis.  Jackson is a committed board member of the Center for Visually Impaired, the Atlanta Food Bank, and the Atlanta Business League and is a co-chair of the energy and environment committee for the Concerned Black Clergy.

Jackson has been a board member of the BBA for three years and is a graduate of Leadership Buckhead class of 2003.

The Astor Holiday Rink at the St. Regis Atlanta, November 24th

The St. Regis Atlanta is inviting all guests and locals to welcome the holidays with the grand opening of the Astor Holiday Rink, presented by Coca-Cola, tomorrow, November 24.

The St. Regis Atlanta’s Grand Terrace, has been transformed into a magical outdoor setting on the seventh floor, complete with a large, softly lit tent over the rink and outdoor fires to make s’mores and enjoy hot cocoa after ice skating.

The opening of the Astor Holiday Rink at The St. Regis Atlanta kicks off Wednesday, November 24 from noon until 9 p.m.

The St. Regis Atlanta is located at 88 West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead.

Shula’s 347 Toys for Tots Campaign, November 27th

Join Santa Claus and the good people at Shula’s 347 to celebrate the launch of the Shula’s Toys for Tots Campaign.

Families are invited to the kick-off event on Saturday, November 27th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event will feature a special appearance by U.S. Marine Corps and “Lunch with Santa”.

In an effort to collect as many toys as possible, Shula’s is promising a FREE kid’s meal for all families that donate an unused toy to their Toys for Tots campaign. The FREE meal offer will be available, every, Saturday until December 18th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Shula’s 347 Grill is located at 3405 Lenox Road, Northeast inside the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel.

Southern lifestyle magazine, Southern Lady, will bring the pages of the publication to life with the eighth annual Southern Lady Celebration weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.

Curtains Up presents "Annie" at Onstage Atlanta

Non-profit performing arts company, Curtains Up, is inviting the community to see their production of Annie at Onstage Atlanta (2597 N Decatur Road, Decatur). Curtains Up mentors at-risk children and trains them to become confident and successful performers.

Annie will run beginning November 8 through November 13, 2010. Mary Stewart Sullivan, a Broadway performer, will star as the title role opposite Jennifer Salberg, founder of Curtains Up, as Miss Hannigan.

Jennifer started Curtains Up in 2004 and has since been successful with her outreach. In 2005, Mary Stewart, at the age of four, learned how theatre could be fun and philanthropic from “Ms. Jen”. This year, with the help of her Curtains Up background, Mary Stewart landed the role and played Jojo in Seussical with the Atlanta School of the Performing Arts.

Tickets for this event cost $10 for students and $15 for adults.
