Fulton and community partners to host celebration for children and families in need

ATLANTA -- Children and families in need and outstanding students will be the focus of a “Community Cares” Christmas Celebration on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  The event will feature distribution of toys, clothing, non-perishable items and recognition of students who have demonstrated academic excellence and perfect attendance.  Community partners supporting the event with entertainment, food, resources and giveaways include Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Children and Youth, V103 FM, Music Education Group (MEG), Treasure Chest, Inc., and other caring sponsors.

Saving Our Daughters and Greg Cole to hold Christmas toy drive

ATLANTA -- Thursday, December 19, Saving Our Daughters (S.O.D.) and Dirty Money’s Kalenna will host the toy drive for a cause from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Sponsored by Greg Cole of Nancy’s Pizza (3167 Peachtree NE), guests will be able to give back while enjoying good food and special prizes. Kalenna is requesting that attendees bring Christmas gift cards, outer wear, games and beauty products to give to local children in need.

Santa Photo Experience to create more magical memories

(WXIA) -- Eager children and their families can once again experience the magic of the holiday season with a visit to the Simon® Santa Photo Experience at Lenox Square, Mall of Georgia, Town Center at Cobb and Northlake Mall.

Santa schedules and locations are as follows:

  • Lenox Square, now through December 24 in Macy’s Court
  • Mall of Georgia, now through December 24 in Nordstrom Court
  • Town Center at Cobb, now through December 24 in Center Court
  • Northlake Mall, now through December 24 in Center Court

Lenox Square, Mall of Georgia, Town Center at Cobb and Northlake Mall will also be the places for Santa to greet special needs children and their families via the popular Caring Santa program.

Job fair for Atlanta teens this Saturday

ATLANTA -- The city of Atlanta is offering a job fair to Atlanta teenagers interested in summer jobs.

The event is only for teens who live within the city because it's sponsored by the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA). The agency hopes to find jobs for 350 teenagers on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AWDA offices at 818 Pollard Street in Atlanta.

It's open to juniors and seniors in high schools. Students who apply may bring the following: high school transcript, Georgia ID or driver's license, Social Security card, birth certificate and proof of residence. Register online for Selective Service (boys 18 years or older) prior to arrival.

The director of Atlanta Workforce Development says they also want to hear from businesses interested in employing teens.

Look out for runners on Ga. 400

Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.
