Fulton County Kicks off Spring SPARC Atlanta Health Screening Clinics for Older Adults

 

Older adults in need of preventive health care screenings at no cost or at a lower cost can take advantage of upcoming SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration) clinics that begin Saturday, April 14, 2012.  The 2012 spring clinics headed by the Fulton County Department of  Housing and Human Services Office of Aging will feature immunizations and routine health screenings such as tests for cholesterol levels, blood glucose and blood pressure.

SPARC Clinics are much more than health fairs.  Citizens who visit SPARC Atlanta clinics can take advantage of several health screenings, vaccinations, nutrition counseling and health education.  The clinics provide referrals when appropriate and track the actions and progress of those who attend.
Services available for those who visit the spring 2012 clinics include:

• Tetanus and Pneumonia
• Flu
• Women’s Health: Clinical Breast Exams, Mammography and Pap Test Referrals
• STD/HIV
• Cholesterol/Blood Glucose
• Blood Pressure
• Healthy Mind
• BMI
• Sleep
• Colorectal
• Health Education and Referrals
• Balance

Other available services will include Medicare assistance and Food Stamp Assistance.

SPARC Atlanta is administered through a partnership between the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Fulton County Office of Aging.  The Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness, area hospitals and several other nonprofit organizations comprise a collaborative group that organizes health screenings and services.
