According to an Atlanta police report, one sales representative said one of the suspects came in, and when she asked him if she could help him, he pulled a sledge hammer from out of his pants and proceeded to smash the display case.

Video surveillance images show five suspects inside the store smashing the display case and running off, with a uniformed security guard in pursuit. The police report said a sixth suspect was outside the store, acting as a lookout.

Police responding a short time later, to reports of a suspicious vehicle on Rockhaven Circle, not far from Lenox Square, said they found a white van without tags on it, along with several items of clothing and a bundle with three of the missing watches, valued at about $90.00. Residents on Rockhaven Circle who reported the suspicious vehicle, described individuals whose descriptions were similar to those seen in the surveillance video. They said the suspects had gotten into another vehicle and left the area before police arrived.

The police report described the suspects as follows:

Suspect one (1) was a black male about 230 pounds, wearing black pants with a black polo shirt and dark sunglasses.
Suspect two (2) was a black male about 260 pounds with dark skin, a long sleeve shirt on with the logo "ON94" on the front, dark jeans with a hat and white tennis shoes.
Suspect three (3) was a black male wearing a white t-shirt, gray sweats with a purple stripe on the side, and what appeared to be twisted hair on his head.
Suspect four (4) was a young skinny black male with a red ball cap and a red t-shirt with dark jeans and red shoes on.
Suspect five (5) was a black male about 190 pounds with a white hat and dark jeans and short hair with sunglasses on.
Suspect six (6) was a black male with white and black shoes, black shorts, tank top with white and red stripes and a red hat with a watch on his right wrist.
