The defense rested its case in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal trial on Tuesday.

Judge Jerry Baxter announced closing arguments will begin on March 19.

Jurors have listened to testimony for six months now. The trial began back in August 2014.

Twelve former APS educators are accused of cheating on standardized tests in 2009.

Burglar surprises woman in NE Atlanta

ATLANTA – Police are searching for a burglar who surprised a woman in northeast Atlanta early Monday.

Officer say the woman came home to her apartment on Bell at Cheshire Bridge and was inside for about an hour, when a man dressed all in black suddenly ran out of one of the bedrooms and pushed her down.

The woman was apparently unharmed.

The burglar got away empty-handed.

Catalytic converter thefts rising again.

Weekend roadwork: Signs around the Perimeter

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will continue to perform sign structure work on Interstate 285 this weekend.

Most of the projects will require lane closures, which could result in lengthy delays. Drivers are asked to avoid the Perimeter in impacted areas if possible.

All work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb County
1 lane of I-75 in each direction will be closed between Delk Road and South Marietta Parkway from 7:30 a.m. Saturday to 5:30 p.m. Sunday for sign structure work.

Coweta County
1 northbound lane of I-85 will be closed from 2 miles north of Bullsboro Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for striping.

DeKalb County
2 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.

Shoplifting suspect steals $10,000 worth of underwear

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police are looking for a woman accused of stealing nearly 800 pairs of panties from the Victoria's Secret at Lenox Square.

Investigators said that on Feb. 7, the suspect spent more than two hours inside the store. During that time, she stuffed about 785 pairs of underwear into three separate shopping bags.

The store manager estimated the total cost of the stolen panties at about $10,500.

Surveillance cameras inside Victoria's Secret captured images of the suspect. Police described her as a black woman wearing a red hat, a white and black T-shirt, blue jeans, and red and white tennis shoes. She was carrying a purse and the three shopping bags.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Attempted smash and grabs at 3 Buckhead businesses

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police are investigating overnight break-ins at three Buckhead-area businesses.

The glass doors to Cupcake Mafia, Gorgeous Growth Hair and Salon, and Lisa Nicole were all smashed, according to police. All three businesses are located in the 2115 Piedmont apartment building.

According to an Atlanta Police officer on the scene, the suspects tried to steal the flat screen televisions inside each business. While they were unable to take the televisions, they caused some damage to the TVs and their wall mounts.

A witness saw two black men with their faces covered run from Cupcake Mafia and drive away in a gray Volkswagen Jetta with a Florida tag, according to police.

The owners of Cupcake Mafia and Gorgeous Growth told police nothing was taken from their businesses.

The attempted burglaries are under investigation.

Drivers are asked to avoid Interstate 285 if possible, as construction projects will be performed on several stretches of that road.

As always, all weekend roadwork is weather permitting.

2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
3 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between New Northside Drive and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Bolton Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.
