Atlanta's Controversial Spot for New High School

ATLANTA -- "When we get a high school, we want it placed in the proper spot not in the worst location possible."

The worst location, in the opinion of Buckhead resident Sally Silver and many others, is at the intersection of West Paces Ferry Road and East Andrews Drive, behind an apartment complex that sits on East Andrews is 30 wooded acres. It's prime real estate in the middle of relentless traffic.

"The traffic here is egregious," said Silver."Everybody who's ever been to Buckhead knows you have to wait in line through two and three traffic lights sometimes to get off of East Andrews, and if you've ever been on Peachtree, Roswell Road or West Paces, well, they speak for themselves."

Residents say the high school would clog Buckhead, and it would stop new restaurants and hotels from locating to this area because they could no longer get liquor licenses this close to a school. And there's this: the owner of the property doesn't want to sell.

Phipps Already Taking Reservations, Fees for Santa

ATLANTA -- It's a childhood experience that resonates for life, at least for some of us. The fabled trip to visit Santa at the mall is, for many families, a highlight of the holiday. Phipps Plaza in Buckhead began a new tradition a few years ago, one that did not sit well with everyone.

Phipps manager Dewayne Herbert says "He's just a really popular Santa. Over 6,000 families visit him each year. This gives each family the opportunity to get their time in without feeling rushed."

Beginning Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m., families needed to log onto santaatphipps.com and pay $15 to make a reservation to see Santa; $10 goes toward the cost of the photo package.

Last year, all 6,000 appointments were booked within 48 hours.

Within the first hour of going online Wednesday, the site temporarily crashed.

Jerusalem Mayor Speaks in Atlanta

Barkat, who has been mayor of Jerusalem for nearly two years, spoke about his vision for the future of the city, including attracting more tourists and business investment.

Founded in 1901, the Jewish National Fund is a nonprofit organization that specializes in the development of Israeli land and infrastructure. The organization says it has planted more than 240 million trees in Israel.
