Buckhead Homes to be Razed

ATLANTA -- The landscape of several neighborhoods inside Buckhead will be changing over the next year. Eleven homes damaged by the September floods will be torn down, never to be replaced.

A $5.5 million grant from FEMA will purchase the homes for 85 percent of fair market value pre-flood. City officials say the buyouts were offered to 40 homeowners, but only 11 ultimately accepted.

Once torn down, the property will be converted to greenspace, devoid of playgrounds or concrete walkways -- anything that could be affected future floods.

In order to qualify, the homes had to suffer damages worth more than 50 percent of the homes' value. In the Hanover West Neighborhood off Bohler Road, residents are upset that their neighbor on Hanover West Drive took the buyout.

"If it's just greenspace, who's going to take care of it?" asked Denis Koenig.

State Releases Info on Race to the Top Allocations

ATLANTA -- The state of Georgia has released numbers for how the Race to the Top stimulus money will be allocated. Metro Atlanta has four of the 29 school districts from across the state receiving money over the next four years.

Atlanta City Schools will get $39.3 million, Clayton County will get $15.3 million, Dekalb will see $30 million and Gwinnett gets about $20.8 million.

In order to keep these funds schools must submit a budget and must be in line with four assurances. These include teacher and leader effectiveness and money for turn-around schools -- which are the lowest performing schools in each district.

For a full look at all the schools from across the state getting money, take a look at the table below.

Try It Review: EZ Jet Water Cannon

Keeping his car looking clean is important to Greg Welch, but when he doesn't have time to wash it himself, he has to pay the on-site detailer at his office and that can get expensive.

"They charge usually about $20 and then of course there's a tip involved," Greg said.

The EZ Jet Water Cannon multi-nozzle hose attachment claims it has the power for all the jobs around your house.  It sells in stores and on-line for $20.

"It looks easy. The name says it's easy," he said.  "So it must be easy right?"

So Greg hooked it up to the garden hose and got to work.

The 15 inch nozzle has eight different patterns, everything from mist, to shower, to jet.

"The different spray setting work really well," he said, "getting everything from high pressure to low pressure to just a light mist."

Greg especially liked how you don't have to squeeze the handle to turn the spray on and off.

Try It Review: Gourmet Quick Chop

ATLANTA -- One year-old Skyler is the apple of her mom's eye. But Samantha Welch says trying to whip up dinner while watching a toddler can be trying.

"She likes to pull everything out of the drawers, tries to open things, climb up" Samantha said. "She usually sits on my feet and then if I've got hot stuff on the stove or if I'm trying to chop things up, it gets really hectic at 5:00."

Before the Slap Chop, the late Billy Mays pitched the Gourmet Quick Chop that claims to be the fast, easy way to chop, mince, slice and dice with just a tap.

The $20 set also comes with a grater, juicer and egg separator.

First Samantha and her husband, Greg, tried dicing up a potato, but problems cropped up right away.

The potato didn't work at all," said Samantha.

The Quick Chops rotating blade is supposed to cut faster than a knife and easier than a processor, but the potato kept getting stuck between the blades.
