Aries Viera named Master Model Builder For LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta

ATLANTA -- LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta named Aries Viera as the attraction’s new Master Model Builder at its Brick Factor Competition hosted in late November.

Viera stood out among the nine finalists as a strategic and creative LEGO® brick builder, a role model to the panel of kid judges and a perfect fit for the full-time position. As Master Model Builder, Viera will be the new face of LEGOLAND Discovery Center within the attraction and at community events. He will also be in charge of creating new and innovative LEGO builds for guests to enjoy as well as training the other Model Builders and maintaining all brick-related attractions such as MINILAND and the Model Builder Academy.

Atlanta BeltLine to host bicycle tour this weekend

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership will team up with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition for a tour this weekend.

The 7th annual Atlanta BeltLine Bicycle Tour will be held Saturday, June 14. Staggered rides through the BeltLine's 45 neighborhoods will begin at 9 a.m. from the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark.

Riders have a choice of two tours: the full BeltLine, which is 27 miles long; and the East Meets West route -- 16 miles of some of the trail's most beautiful parks.

Advance registration is $30 for members of the Atlanta BeltLine or Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, and $35 for the general public. On-site registration opens at 8 a.m. and is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension sponsors free workshop for budding entrepreneurs

ATLANTA -- Have you ever considered starting your own home-based business? Fulton County Cooperative Extension will sponsor a free workshop on Starting a Home-Based Business on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System’s Central Library, 1 Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta.

Participants will gain valuable information to help them start and maintain a successful home-based business. Specific topics will include how to identify fraud and scams billed as business opportunities, space and time needs, identifying factors that contribute to success and much more.

Jazz under the Stars at Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Facility will host “Jazz under the Stars” on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of Benson and will feature vocalist Gina Grate of Grate Productions. According to her website, Ms. Grate performs with numerous “big bands and small combos” along with her work in the recording studio.  Light refreshments will be provided during the event.

The Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex is located at 6500 Vernon Woods Drive NE, Sandy Springs.  The public is invited to join Benson participants as they enjoy an evening of music and fellowship.

Sweep the Hooch registration open

ATLANTA -- This year's Sweep the Hooch event is expected to be the biggest one yet.

The annual Chattahoochee River clean-up to slated to attract nearly 600 volunteers at a number of locations along the water.

Last year, Sweep the Hooch participants gathered up nearly four tons of trash.

"This is the kind of hands-on work that Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and our partners do that reaffirms our commitment to keeping our river clean," Chattahoochee Riverkeeper executive director Sally Bethea said in a statement. "We'll have volunteers paddling the river, wading in the water and combing the shoreline for trash."

Clean-up locations along the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area run from Buford Dam to Paces Mill.

Sweep the Hooch will be Saturday, Apr. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign up as an individual or with a group, visit sweepthehooch.org.
