Phipps Plaza to be renovated

ATLANTA -- Simon Property Group, Inc., announced it will undertake a series of improvements to Phipps Plaza.

The first project in a series of improvements will be an extensive interior makeover, providing a fresh new look and feel to the interior space of the mall. Plans include: upgraded LED lighting, repainting the interior, new warm wood accents, an updated railing system, luxury soft seating and lounging areas with Wi-Fi connectivity and chargers, upgraded restrooms, and the installation of a hotel-like concierge service center.

“Our patrons will really enjoy these improvements,” said Dewayne Herbert, Phipps Plaza’s mall manager. “These initial enhancements will provide a visible transformation of the interior environment that will be more consistent with the one-of-a-kind Phipps shopping experience that our customers deserve.”

Le Dress Boutique celebrates anniversary, moves to Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- You don't have to break the bank to get the wedding dress of your dreams, according to Linda Morado, proprietress of Le Dress Boutique, a Sandy Springs business that sells and consigns luxury dresses at substantial discounts. The company recently celebrated its five-year anniversary with a move from Buckhead into a larger retail space in Sandy Springs.

Le Dress Boutique's inventory includes fine wedding and evening gowns; party, prom and Mother-of-the-Bride dresses; and vintage jewelry. Discounts range from 35-80 percent off list price.

Approximately 95 percent of the wedding gowns are new or samples consigned to the store by overstocked specialty boutiques from around the country. On the special occasion side of the business, half of the inventory is new, and half is "once-loved."

9 retailers closing the most stores

9 retailers closing the most stores

(USA TODAY) -- Brick-and-mortar retailers have been suffering from slow economic activity for years, as well as from increased competition from online retailers. The rise in store closings is a prominent sign of their struggles. Weakened companies cannot afford the real estate and personnel costs that go along with supporting hundreds of unprofitable locations. The clearest proof of the problem was RadioShack's recent decision to close more than 1,000 stores.

RadioShack is hardly alone. During that last several years Gap has closed 20% of its locations. Even Macy's, which has forecast strong earnings and is considered the most successful of the mid-market retailers, closed stores recently.
