ATLANTA -- Phipps Plaza shined brightly Thursday, Mar. 26 as it officially unveiled its new, updated chandelier in Court of the South. Phipps Plaza welcomed the new, updated chandelier as part of the overall enhancements that are taking place during the mall’s renovation project.

These updates include an extensive interior makeover, upgraded energy-efficient LED lighting, new interior color schemes with warm wood accents and updated railings, upgraded columns with carrera marble, comfortable lounging areas with Wi-Fi connectivity and device chargers, upgraded restrooms, and the installation of a hotel-like concierge customer service center. A striking new entrance and distinctive luxury façade on Peachtree Road are also planned, as well as the addition of a residential project, Domain at Phipps Plaza, and the acclaimed AC Hotel by Marriott.

During Thursday’s reception, Livable Buckhead Executive Director Denise Starling and representatives from Simon were on hand to mark the occasion and shared how the company is evolving to improve experiences at premiere properties such as Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza – as well as the projects’ impact on the Buckhead community.

“Simon is no longer thinking single use - it isn't just about shopping anymore as they have shown with their recent redevelopment activities including the AC Hotel, two residential developments behind Phipps, all the restaurants at Lenox and the residential development behind Lenox as well. All that asphalt out there is going away, density is happening and Simon is helping Buckhead turn the corner out of its suburban adolescence.”

"Simon still remains 'old school' in the right ways – Robin Suggs, mall manager for Lenox Square, Dewayne Herbert, mall manager for Phipps Plaza and Mike Romstad, Regional Vice President, are all actively engaged in the civic fabric of Buckhead - taking active roles in Livable Buckhead, the Buckhead CID and the Buckhead Hotel Council, helping shape projects like PATH400 and the Peachtree corridor improvements.  This work really matters and shows that Simon understands the value of Phipps and Lenox as two 'grande dames' of Buckhead. These properties and their owners are central players in this community, and it’s almost impossible to overstate their impact.”

“The third way this event represents a new chapter in Buckhead’s history is through the environmental effort that Simon is kicking off today. This chandelier is part of a much bigger program Simon has undertaken to retrofit the entire mall with LED lighting. This not only makes all of those outfits look much better in the dressing rooms so you will spend more money - it reduces energy consumption. This is critical as Buckhead is part of the Better Buildings Challenge, which means we aim to reduce our energy consumption 20% by 2020. The awesome thing about this is that Atlanta is leading the nation in this program.  When do you ever hear of Atlanta being a great example of an environmental program? This lighting change is helping Atlanta in that endeavor.”
