Same old story: Weekend roadwork on I-285, I-20

(WXIA) -- The weekend will be dry, weather-wise, but with sunshine comes roadwork.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be on several roads throughout metro Atlanta. As always, drivers are asked to be cautious when traveling through work zones.

Look out for workers in these areas:

Cobb County
* Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Atlanta Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement.
* Two Inner Loop lanes and one Outer Loop lane of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign installation.

Free MARTA Breeze Cards for Falcons fans

ATLANTA -- Miller Lite's Free Rides program will visit Atlanta this week to help Falcons fans get home safely from Thursday's game.

Representatives from Miller Lite and the Falcons will distribute 15,000 MARTA Breeze Cards at the College Park, H.E. Holmes, Indian Creek and Lindbergh Center stations.

The cards will be given away Sept. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

MillerCoors Responsibility Commerce Manager Diane Wagner said the Breeze Card giveaway is Miller Lite's way of ensuring football fans do the responsible thing and not drive home after drinking at the game.

Weekend roadwork: I-285 and other sad stories

(WXIA) -- Another weekend, another series of road projects -- it's a familiar tune in metro Atlanta.

Crews will be on Interstate 285 and other highways throughout the weekend. As always, all work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb/Fulton counties
* Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between South Cobb Drive and Bolton Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement.

DeKalb County
* Two northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Glenwood Road and Covington Highway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign work.

(WXIA) -- Last week's break from interstate roadwork was short-lived. The Georgia Department of Transportation said crews will be back on the roads this weekend.

Interstate 285, especially the portion above I-20, will be GDOT's main focus, as several projects are scheduled for that corridor.

As always, all work is weather-permitting.

Clayton/Fulton counties
* 1 Outer Loop lane of I-285 will be closed at I-75 south from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for resurfacing
* 1 outside lane of I-285 will be closed at I-85 north from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs

Cobb County
* 2 northbound and 2 southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between South Cobb Drive and Paces Ferry Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement
* Pacing will occur at the I-285 Kennedy Interchange with I-75 overnight Saturday

Labor Day treat: No roadwork this weekend

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has a surprise for drivers who plan to visit Atlanta over the Labor Day weekend.

All construction-related road closures in metro Atlanta will be suspended from Friday at noon to Tuesday at 9 a.m. GDOT said while some long-term closures may remain in place for safety reasons, no new ones will be added unless there is an emergency.

Traffic is expected to be heavy throughout the area, thanks to a number of major Labor Day events:

* Dragon Con
* AJC Decatur Book Festival
* Black Gay Pride
* Oral-B USA 500 (Atlanta Motor Speedway)
* Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game (Georgia Dome)
* Braves v. Marlins/Phillies (Turner Field)
* Celebrate Freedom (Marietta)

(WXIA) -- This weekend is expected to be hot, and the Georgia Department of Transportation will take advantage of the weather by using Friday, Saturday and Sunday to work on some much-needed road improvements.

Like last weekend, drivers are asked to avoid Interstate 285 if possible. Lane closures will result in major delays.

Scheduled I-285 projects include:

GDOT to hold hearings on major highway project

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Members of the public are invited to attend one of several hearings about the Georgia Department of Transportation's plans to reconstruction the Interstate 285 and Georgia 400 interchange.

The proposed project would begin, on I-285, west of Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, and extend to east of Ashford Dunwoody Road in neighboring Dunwoody.

On Georgia 400, it would begin just south of the Glenridge Connector and extend north to the Hammond Drive interchange area.

Possible improvements to the roads include:

* Construction of barrier-separated lanes along I-285 and Ga. 400

* Reconstruction of existing ramps between the two highways

* Building new flyover bridges and reconstructing the existing ones

* Construction of braided ramps to eliminate conflicts between traffic entering and exiting Ga. 400
