ATLANTA -- The Atlanta History Center will host a talk by bestselling author S. C. Gwynne later this month.

Gwynne's latest book, Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson, tells the story of "one of our country's greatest military figures."

He will speak on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. as part of the Atlanta History Center's Livingston Lectures series.

Rebel Yell tells of Jackon's rise from unpopular physics professor to Confederate general whose knowledge of warfare struck fear in the hearts of Union leaders. Many consider Jackson the greatest Southern hero of the Civil War, after Robert E. Lee. He is one of three notable Confederates featured on the Stone Mountain carving.

Gwynne was named a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critic's Circle Award for his first historical work, Empire of the Summer Moon, about Quanah Parker and the Comanche tribe.

His Sept. 30 lecture costs $10 to attend. Tickets can be purchased at atlantahistorycenter.com.

The Atlanta History Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road.
