Braves Pitcher, Tim Hudson to Sign Autographs at Phipps Plaza on December 15th

On Wednesday, December 15, shoppers are invited to visit Tim Hudson of the Atlanta Braves at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama donation booth in Monarch Court at Phipps Plaza Shopping Plaza from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tim Hudson will sign autographs for shoppers in exchange for donations made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Phipps Plaza is proud to welcome the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama this holiday season to make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is raising funds to support their Season of Wishes®. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama is on property at Phipps Plaza now through January 2, 2011, collecting donations to help grant the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses this holiday season.

Meet-and-Greet Football Great, Cornelius Bennett at Lenox Square Mall, December 2nd

On Thursday, December 2nd, Macy shoppers are invited to a meet-and-greet with football great Cornelius Bennett.

In preparation for the upcoming SEC Championship game, the All-American linebacker of the University of Alabama and fourteen year veteran of NFL teams including the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons will be signing autographs for customers at the Men’s Store at Macy’s at Lenox Square at 6 p.m.

Shoppers are invited to check out the latest looks in sportswear to get ready for the SEC Championship game at the Georgia Dome. With any $50 purchase made during the event, shoppers will get to meet the legendary linebacker and receive his autograph. Don’t miss this chance to meet the legend himself and hit the game in style!

2010 Chastain Horse Park Rodeo, tomorrow 4-6 p.m.

This isn't Buckhead’s first rodeo, it's Buckhead's only rodeo and it happens this weekend. Join the people at Chastain Horse Park (4371 Powers Ferry Road, Atlanta) on Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for a historic rodeo experience.

The Chastain Horse Park, originally Buckhead stables, occupies 13 acres of the City of Atlanta's Troy Chastain Memorial Park. Revived by Amy C. Lance in 1997, this park serves as a nonprofit equestrian facility, which services the community through therapeutic programs for students with mental or physical disabilities, programs for children from the inner-city and children at-risk, boarding services and riding lessons for the general public.

This weekend's rodeo will offer: Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Team Roping, Rodeo Clown Entertainment, fun and games. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children aged 5-11 and free for children 4 and under.

New Director of Athletics for Atlanta Public Schools

Jeff Beggs was recently named the new Director of Athletics for the APS school district. He will be responsible for leadership of the interscholastic sports program, sports training and aiding in healthy competition throughout all grade levels.

Beggs has an extensive 31-year background as a system-level athletic director, a high school athletic director, head coach, assistant principal and teacher for a number of schools and school districts in the state.  Also, he currently serves as president of the Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA), where he is also a member of the GADA Board of Directors.

World Cup In Atlanta? Maybe.

Atlanta, GA – Mayor Kasim Reed and a delegation of sports enthusiasts and community leaders gathered with international and national soccer officials in New York City on Monday to support the United States’ bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. The group was also there to promote Atlanta as one of the potential 18 host cities.  Joining the Mayor in New York were Gary Stokan, Atlanta World Cup organizing committee chairman, Frank Poe, Georgia World Congress Center executive director and Rich McKay, Atlanta Falcons president. 

The U.S. Bid Committee hosted a reception in New York City to welcome the FIFA Inspection Delegation to the United States.  FIFA, the world soccer federation, visited New York City to examine America’s bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.  The United States is among 10 nations bidding for the World Cup.  The announcement is expected to come on Dec. 2, 2010.  If the U.S.
